For PKD patients good food can help them back to health, then what foods are PKD patients can eat it?
PKD refers to a condition that numerous cysts growing on kidneys. With the development of the cysts, kidney function will be affected. Diet is an important part of treatment which will help slow down the progression of the disease and further kidney damage. The followings are the diet suggestions for PKD patients.
Low-salt food.
Low-salt foods are good for the health of kidneys and the overall health of our body. Salt is a rich resource of sodium. High sodium will increase high blood pressure, which is a common symptom that PKD patients will develop. Besides, high sodium can also lead to water-sodium retention. So you are suggested to avoid canned foods, processed foods and fast foods. Foods that cooked at home are suggested.
Low-protein food.
Low protein foods are recommended to PKD patients. Too much protein is a burden to PKD patients because protein will produce a waste product, urea nitrogen, and it should be filtered by kidneys. High quality protein is suggested to consume to ensure enough nutrition. This kind of foods include fish, chicken, egg white and lean meat.
High-vitamin food.
vitamin is necessary to our body. As we all know that fresh fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamin. So PKD patients should eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, such as carrot, kiwi fruit, orange and so on. Proper consumption will enhance immunity and prevent cold, cough and fever.
